Academic Achievement & Retention Services

Welcome to Academic Achievement and Retention Services!

Academic Achievement and Retention Services (AARS) is an advising program with the goal to increase undergraduate student persistence and graduation from the University of Northern Iowa.  Academic advising is a key factor in students' understanding of college-level academic expectations.  Within Academic Achievement and Retention Services, you will encounter caring and supportive advisors who provide you with personalized, educational information you need to practice the habits of success.

Our services specialize in working with students from special populations, including first-generation students, students with low incomes, transfer students, multicultural students, LGBTQ students, non-traditional students, students in academic difficulty, student veterans, underprepared students, students with disabilities, and former foster youth.

Academic Achievement and Retention Services advisors are trained and certified in the Appreciative Advising model and involved in campus committees and national organizations that promote the success of our students.

Contact Kathy Peters, AARS Coordinator, by phone or e-mail for more information.
